Conversation Piece - Monday, December 8, 2008

"Oh, come not near me, sir; I shall defile you.
I am that of your blood was taken from you
For your better health. Look no more upon't
But cast it to the ground regardlessly;
Let the common sewer take it from distinction.
Beneath the stars, upon yon meteor
Ever hung my fate, 'mongst things corruptible;
I ne'er could pluck it from him. My loathing
Was prophet to the rest, bu ne'er believed;
Mine honor fell with him, and now my life."

Being Honest With Themselves

The word "honest" seems to be used in a sarcastic and ironic way. Obviously the characters mean them the way they are intended to be interpreted, but as an audience we see them as being foolish for actually believing De Flores and Diaphanta are honest individuals. Tomazo seems to be blind to De Flores, his actions, and his intentions. Beatrice believes that just because Diaphanta has proven to be a honest, in the sense that she is a virgin, she does not have honest intentions and cannot be trusted. This makes me think that perhaps Tomaza and Beatrice should look at being honest with themselves. They need to open their eyes and come to their senses of what is really going on around them.
